The old banker was recalling to his mind the party he gave in the autumn fifteen years ago”(1). The first part is exposition, the author introduces atmosphere in the autumn party and the conversation between intelligent people “It was a dark autumn night. Next, plot contributes a good deal to the understanding of a story through the multiple parts. The young lawyer is also a dynamic character, because at first, he is a greedy and foolish man with money, but in the end, he realizes that knowledge is more important, and he learns it by his days in prison. The author builds antagonist character is a lawyer and he is whose image changes over time from a young man 25 turns to 40 years old with the difference of appearance “his face was yellow, of an earthy shade, the cheeks were sunken, the back long and narrow”(5). However, he’s a dynamic character because his mind develops in the end, and he finally feels ashamed of himself. For example, when he argues with the lawyer and states “I don’t agree with you”(1) show that he doesn’t like others have oppose perspectives to him.
